US preparing for potential Iranian attack on troops in Syria

After Israel's attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, U.S. officials have stated that Iran is preparing to retaliate by targeting American forces in Syria

The U.S. is preparing for a "significant" attack by Iran on Israeli or American assets in the region, possibly within the next week, a senior U.S. official told CNN Saturday. 

On April 1, Israel attacked the Iranian Consulate in Damascus. Two generals and five officers from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in the attack. Mohammad Reza Zahedi, commander of the Jerusalem Force of the Revolutionary Guards in Syria and Lebanon, was also killed in the attack.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated, "Our brave men will punish the Zionists as necessary.'"
