United States President Donald Trump said Tuesday he held a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reaffirming their alignment on key regional issues, including trade and Iran’s nuclear program.
“The call went very well — We are on the same side of every issue,” Trump wrote on his social media platform.
The renewed U.S.-Iran nuclear talks, which began earlier this month in Oman and continued in Rome, are expected to resume this week. Trump described the meetings with Iranian officials as "good," signaling cautious optimism toward a potential diplomatic breakthrough.
Meanwhile, tensions flared as Iran accused Israel of attempting to "undermine" the ongoing discussions.
According to a report by The New York Times, Trump recently urged Israel not to carry out strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, indicating he preferred to give diplomacy a chance before any potential escalation.
Despite that, Netanyahu remained defiant, reiterating that Israel would never allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon, regardless of the trajectory of U.S.-led negotiations.
Israel, widely regarded as the Middle East’s only nuclear power, and Western allies have long accused Tehran of pursuing nuclear arms. Iran, however, insists its nuclear activities are solely for peaceful, civilian purposes.
In 2018, Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 nuclear deal, a multilateral accord that lifted sanctions on Iran in exchange for strict limits on its nuclear program.
Following the U.S. exit, Iran began incrementally violating the deal, including enriching uranium up to 60 percent — just below the 90 percent threshold needed for weapons-grade material — far beyond the 3.67 percent cap set by the agreement.
The International Atomic Energy Agency has since reported Tehran’s continued accumulation of highly enriched uranium, heightening concerns over nuclear proliferation in the region.
