President-elect Donald Trump has announced that former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will not be part of his new administration. While Trump expressed gratitude for their past service, he confirmed they would not be included in his upcoming Cabinet.
This decision comes amid indications that Trump is aiming to strengthen relations with Türkiye. During his previous term, Trump had a complex relationship with Türkiye, balancing strategic interests with regional stability. By excluding Haley and Pompeo – both of whom have held contentious views on Türkiye – Trump may be signaling a shift toward a more cooperative approach with Ankara.
Trump’s decision to exclude these key figures could mark the beginning of a new chapter in U.S.-Türkiye relations. With a focus on mutual interests and regional cooperation, the Trump administration may aim to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with Türkiye, addressing shared concerns such as security, trade, and geopolitical stability.
This move is seen as a strategic realignment of U.S. foreign policy in the region, potentially leading to a more collaborative and less confrontational relationship with Türkiye.
Haley served as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations from 2017 to 2018, while Pompeo served as Secretary of State from 2018 to 2021.
Both were prominent figures in Trump’s first administration but have since pursued their political careers. Haley even ran against Trump in the Republican primaries before ultimately endorsing him.
“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation,” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform, also expressing appreciation for their service to the country.
“I was proud to work with President Trump defending America at the United Nations. I wish him, and all who serve, great success in moving us forward to a stronger, safer America over the next four years,” Haley responded.
