Several people were killed Tuesday in a suspected shooting at a hair salon in the Swedish city of Uppsala, local media reported.
The incident occurred near Vaksala Square in the city center, according to police, who said they received multiple emergency calls from the public reporting loud bangs believed to be gunfire.
“Several people were found with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds,” police said in a statement. The victims have not yet been identified, and the exact number of fatalities remains unclear.
The shooting took place on the eve of the Walpurgis spring festival, a major annual event in Sweden that typically draws large crowds into city centers for celebrations.
A large section of the area has been cordoned off as police launch an investigation into the incident. Authorities have not released any details about potential suspects or motives.
