Haiti’s newly selected Prime Minister, Garry Conille, was hospitalized late Saturday in the capital, Port-au-Prince, just days after his arrival in the country, the Haiti government announced.

Details on why Conille was hospitalized remain unclear

The Prime Minister’s office released a statement saying Conille felt slightly unwell “following a week of intense activities.” The statement added that Conille is stable and expressed gratitude to those who visited and wished him well.

Louis Gérald Gilles, a member of the transitional presidential council that recently appointed Conille to lead the Caribbean nation, told the Associated Press he was at the hospital but could not provide additional information.

A source close to Conille, speaking anonymously due to a lack of authorization to speak to the media, said he was with the Prime Minister when Conille, who is asthmatic and sometimes uses an inhaler, appeared to have trouble breathing. The source called high-ranking officials to arrange for Conille to be taken to the hospital.
