Middle East consultations between Türkiye and the Russian Federation were held in Istanbul on Friday, according to sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
The talks were conducted at the level of deputy foreign ministers.
Deputy Minister Nuh Yilmaz represented the Turkish side, while Deputy Minister Mikhail Bogdanov represented the Russian Federation.
During the consultations, both delegations exchanged views on regional issues, with a particular focus on the situations in Syria and Palestine.
Deputy Minister Nuh Yilmaz underscored that Türkiye's primary objective regarding Syria is the preservation of the country's territorial integrity and unity. He emphasized that Türkiye is closely monitoring the developments in Syria through the lens of national security and stability.
Yilmaz stated that supporting the Syrian administration politically and financially would be most effectively achieved through the lifting of sanctions.
He also reiterated Türkiye's position that Israeli attacks on Syria and what he referred to as the massacre in Gaza must cease immediately.
According to the diplomatic sources, the consultations also covered the broader security landscape in the Middle East. Both sides discussed opportunities to achieve stability across the region.
It was noted that the interlinked nature of the region's challenges requires a comprehensive approach and coordinated actions among all relevant actors.
