Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus advocates for an international fund to alleviate the impacts of migration, emphasizing the need for collective support and new approaches to address the humanitarian challenges posed by migration

Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus proposed the establishment of an international fund to address the repercussions of migration during the 10th parliament speakers meeting of MIKTA (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Türkiye, Australia) in Mexico City.

He emphasized the humanitarian duty of countries to support this fund based on a certain percentage of their gross national product, reflecting their wealth levels.

Kurtulmus highlighted Türkiye's significant humanitarian aid efforts, especially in assisting migrants, noting the country's extensive experience in dealing with migration challenges.

He underscored that migration is a consequence, not a cause, posing a threat to humanity due to various factors such as war, poverty, internal conflicts, and climate change.

Kurtulmus stressed the necessity of addressing these root causes to effectively tackle the migration issue, stating that military or security measures alone cannot prevent uncontrolled migration.

Moreover, he emphasized the shared burden of migration on both underdeveloped and developed nations, calling for new institutions and approaches to address migration challenges comprehensively.
