A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck the Aegean province of Kutahya in western Türkiye at 10:20 a.m. local time (GMT+3) Friday, Bogazici University's Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI) reported.

The quake occurred at a depth of 5.5 kilometers (3.41 miles), following an earlier 4.5 magnitude tremor at 7:21 a.m.

In a statement from Türkiye's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), no adverse conditions have been reported following the earthquake, though field surveys are still ongoing.

This quake follows the strong tremors that struck Istanbul on Wednesday, when more than 100 aftershocks followed a 6.2 magnitude earthquake, causing widespread panic and raising questions about disaster preparedness.
