Real Madrid faced a tough test in Vallecas on Saturday, managing only a 3-3 draw against Rayo Vallecano.
After the game, journalist Manolo Lama criticized coach Carlo Ancelotti's decision to rotate the squad.
"Everyone was asking Ancelotti to rotate the squad, and he did. Madrid used the B team, which should have been good enough to beat Rayo, but it's not the same as when they play with their first-choice players," Lama said on Cadena Cope.
He added that the team's inconsistency came at a critical moment. "Madrid stumbles exactly when they shouldn’t. This rotation strategy isn't working anymore."
Journalist Tomas Roncero shared similar frustrations and also commented on Arda Guler's performance on Cadena Ser.
I've never seen Guler play with intensity. He plays too comfortably. If he doesn't bring more fire, he cannot play for Madrid.
Roncero remarked
Despite his criticism, Roncero praised Rodrygo's performance, calling it his best of the season.
Arda Guler, however, stood out with a remarkable individual performance. The 19-year-old Turkish midfielder became the youngest Real Madrid player in the 21st century to record two assists in a single La Liga match. Guler set up Valverde's long-range goal and provided the assist for Rodrygo's second-half strike.
While Guler did not score against Vallecano, his first goal of the season came earlier this month during Real Madrid's match against Girona.
I'm very happy to have helped the team today. I really wanted to score because I hadn't scored yet this season with Real Madrid. Bellingham gave me a very good assist, and I ended up scoring. I'm very happy.
Arda Guler said after the game
Guler also acknowledged the support of the fans, by writing "The warmth of the fans gives me confidence in myself. I try to give everything for Real Madrid," he added.
Despite their effort in Vallecas, Real Madrid left with only a point. The team showed resilience in recovering from a two-goal deficit, with Bellingham extending his scoring streak to six consecutive games. However, they were unable to capitalize on their second-half lead.
Real Madrid now turns its attention to their Champions League clash against Atalanta. Guler emphasized the importance of the upcoming match, saying, “Every Champions League match is very important. We haven’t done very well in the last few games, and that’s why we want to win there as well.”
Arda Guler’s record-setting performance is a promising sign for Real Madrid as the young midfielder continues to grow into a more prominent role within the squad. Fans will be eager to see how he contributes in the critical matches ahead.
