A temporary pier has been reestablished in Gaza, enabling the continued delivery of humanitarian aid to the region, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Friday.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has been challenging, with significant shortages of food, medical supplies, and other necessities. The restored pier is expected to enhance the capacity to deliver aid promptly.

The reestablishment follows a setback earlier in the week when the original pier, constructed by the U.S. military to transport aid into Gaza, broke apart and sustained damage in heavy seas on the last days of May 2024. This incident was a significant blow to the American-led effort to create a maritime corridor for humanitarian supplies into the war-torn enclave, according to the Pentagon.
