Widespread rainfall is set to impact all regions of Türkiye starting April 23, 2025, according to the Turkish State Meteorological Service under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change.
Weather Forecast Expert Cengiz Celik spoke to Anadolu Agency (AA) about the incoming weather pattern and warned of persistent thunderstorms lasting several days across the country.
Celik noted that isolated rain is expected in northeastern Türkiye on Monday and Tuesday, with a brief spell of rain also forecasted for the Aegean region on Tuesday evening.
However, the situation will change dramatically from midweek. "Starting Wednesday (April 23), heavy showers and thunderstorms will affect the entire country for four to five days," said Celik.
He added that rainfall will be intermittent but significant in intensity.
The northeastern regions of Türkiye are expected to experience uninterrupted rainfall throughout the week. Celik stated that the interior parts of the Eastern Black Sea region and the broader Eastern Anatolia region will remain under rainy conditions for at least seven days.
Western parts of the country will start receiving rainfall from Wednesday. Strong thunderstorms are forecasted for the northern and interior parts of western Türkiye on April 23, April 24, and April 25.
Despite the rainfall, Celik emphasized temperatures will remain unchanged, staying above seasonal averages.
In the capital city, Ankara, thunderstorms are expected to begin on Wednesday and continue through Saturday. Celik reported that April 22 will be unseasonably warm due to southwesterly winds, with temperatures reaching 26 degrees Celsius. For the rest of the week, highs will hover between 20 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius, remaining above seasonal norms.
Istanbul will experience thunderstorms starting Thursday. Highs are expected to range between 19 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius throughout the week.
In Izmir, a brief period of rain is expected on Tuesday evening, followed by thunderstorms starting on Thursday. Daytime temperatures are forecast to remain steady at around 25 degrees Celsius throughout the week.
