Istanbul has once again embraced the arrival of spring in spectacular fashion, with more than 7.78 million tulips and bulbous plants adorning some of the city's most cherished green spaces. Emirgan Park (Grove), Gulhane Park, Sultanahmet Square, Goztepe 60. Yil Park and Hidiv Park have all been transformed into vibrant floral displays, attracting both local and international visitors.
The initiative, part of the annual "Lale Bayrami" (Tulip Festival) held on April 19-20, is spearheaded by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Department of Parks and Gardens in collaboration with IMM Culture.
Emirgan Park, nestled along the Bosphorus in Sariyer, remains the crown jewel of the celebrations. On a sunlit Sunday, scores of families and photography enthusiasts flocked to the park to admire and capture the kaleidoscope of tulip arrangements. Visitors queued patiently in front of intricate floral figures to take memorable snapshots.
The serene corners of the park also served as peaceful retreats, where many could be seen relaxing with family and friends amid the blossoming scenery.
As part of the festivities, trio performances by the IBB Band and the IBB Chamber Music Ensemble were held in Emirgan Park, Gulhane Park, and Goztepe 60. Yil Park. The musical interludes added a touch of elegance to the already enchanting surroundings.
Children and families were treated to a wide range of activities, including acrobatic shows, face painting, clowns, magicians, stilt walkers, and jugglers. These performances brought joy and color to the celebration, making it a vibrant community event for all ages.
While tulips are often associated with the Netherlands, the flower has deep roots in Ottoman heritage, making Istanbul's tulip season a celebration of both nature and culture.
The city's ongoing efforts to preserve and highlight this botanical legacy have made the Tulip Festival a highly anticipated event on Türkiye’s cultural calendar.
