Prominent actor Cem Yigit Uzumoglu, detained as part of an investigation into his call for the April 2 consumer boycott on social media, was released on Thursday under judicial control and a travel ban.

He was one of the sixteen people who were detained in Istanbul.

Following the March 19 operations against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the arrest of Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, a social media-driven boycott movement emerged in protest. Authorities launched an investigation into those promoting the boycott, issuing detention orders for 16 individuals, including well-known actors.

Among those detained was Cem Yigit Uzunoglu, a renowned actor known for his role in 'Sakir Pasa Ailesi: Mucizeler ve Skandallar.'

Actors’ Union voices solidarity with Cem Yigit Uzunoglu

Following Uzumoglu’s detention, the Actors’ Union issued a statement:

"Our Board Member, colleague, and friend Cem Yigit Uzumoglu was taken into custody this morning. We are working to gather details on the investigation and are in contact with his lawyers. Cem Yigit Uzumoglu is not alone."
