Chinese automotive giant Chery is set to establish a factory in Samsun, Türkiye, following a special legal regulation passed to facilitate the project according to the reports.

The factory will be located in a newly planned, organized industrial zone (OIZ) in the Tekkekoy district, where the government has allocated public land for its expansion.

Expanding industrial zone

The development of the OIZ, spanning 318 hectares, is expected to host multiple firms, including Chery, which will be provided with a large plot of land. To enable this, the OIZ is set to expand on public land, with no additional payment required by Chery, guaranteed through recent legislation.

This move is seen as part of the government's broader effort to attract foreign investment and boost industrial growth.

Project being closely monitored

Mehmet Mus, Chairman of the Turkish Parliament’s Planning and Budget Commission, confirmed that all necessary steps for Chery's investment are being taken and that the project is being closely monitored.

He added that official announcements would be made once the investment is finalized.

Concerns over agricultural land

The plan, however, faced some opposition. Republican People's Party (CHP)'s Samsun Deputy Murat Can expressed concerns during parliamentary discussions about the potential impact on agricultural lands in the area.

While the investment and job creation aspects were acknowledged, the main opposition party CHP's deputy urged caution on environmental and infrastructure issues, including waste management and compliance with environmental regulations.
